Season’s greetings from Mundesley Holiday Village! We’re as excited as ever to introduce you to a wonderful array of activities and for this time of year. Whether you’re looking for a cosy getaway, traditional festivities or fun for all the family, you’re sure to find it in the beautiful winter surroundings of North Norfolk.
Cromer Pier Christmas Show
One of the best things about Christmas is getting swept up in the sheer joy of it all, which is why many flock to the annual Christmas shows in Norfolk. With the fabulous displays and sparkling lights, the atmosphere is crackling with excitement like a Yule log on the fireplace. Now in its twelfth year, the Cromer Pier Christmas show maintains its reputation as essential viewing, with spectacular production values, energetic performances and dazzling costumes. If you need any more convincing that North Norfolk is the place to be for this Christmas, it’s also home to the Thursford Christmas Spectacular, one of the biggest Christmas shows in the country. With over 130 performers and musicians, many of whom are from the West End, brace yourself for an all-singing, all-dancing, side-splitting extravaganza.
Norwich is a bustling centre of arts and theatre, and Christmas is no exception. Make sure you take the opportunity to see The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe at Norwich Maddermarket Theatre. This classic family-favourite is appealing all year round, but just have an extra dash of magic at Christmas time. Pantomime also fits Christmas like a stocking, with the annual performances at the Norwich Theatre Royal guaranteed to put a smile on your face. This year’s production is Jack and the Beanstalk, so make sure your whole family gets a chance to experience the kind of whimsy and theatricality that makes Christmas so magical.
If you’re looking for a touch of heritage to your Christmas proceedings, then we recommend the range of activities on offer via the National Trust. The halls are well and truly decked this time of year! The end of November marks the beginning of Christmas celebrations at Blickling Hall. The 1930s theme includes art nouveau décor and costumed interpretation inspired by the rich history of the estate. You also mustn’t miss the annual programme of Christmas Theatre at Holkham Hall. The atmospheric surroundings of the Norfolk winter countryside will only add to your enjoyment of a haunting performance of The Hound of the Baskervilles, or the rich tones of the Gothic Voices medieval choir. But that’s not all Holkham Hall has to offer. Let yourself be swept away in an enchanting candlelight tour, where you will be regaled in the history of the magnificent estate as you walk through its halls, adorned with opulent festive decorations.
Finally, there is a wonderful array of winter travel excursions in Norfolk. The Wells and Walsingham Light Railway is home to Santa Express, where charming locomotives take you on a fantastic scenic ride through the countryside to Santa’s Grotto. If you happen to miss Father Christmas, don’t worry, he’ll also make an appearance on the Norfolk Broads Santa Cruise River Trip! He’ll be landing on the Vintage Broadsman, as you enjoy a tranquil cruise down the Broads on the open-top deck with mulled wine and a mince pie.
