We’ve collated 7 of the best Christmas experiences and events this winter, to give you some ideas on what to do in Norfolk this Yule, whether it’s with your other half, family or children…
Cromer Pier Christmas Show 2015
In its 11th year, the Cromer Pier Christmas Show returns this year to Cromer Pier: a wintery wonderland of glittery variety, to raise your Christmas spirits! With an all-star cast including; Olly Day, Comedy Magician Steve Zebs, Lulu Alexandra, Keith Pemberton, the Seaside Special Dancers, and many, many more, this event has been described as a “must see” family Christmas Show. This year the show commences on 28th November, and runs throughout the Christmas period – you can find tickets here.
Broads Tours, based in Wroxham, brings you a magical river cruise aboard the Vintage Broadsman with none other than Santa Claus himself on board. With refreshments served to children by Santa’s Pixies, they then take part in a Christmas quiz, colouring/drawing competition, then all children between ages 1-15 will receive a special gift from Santa! This year the cruise runs from 5th – 24th December and you can find tickets here.
Deepdale Christmas Market is held at Dalegate Market and St Mary’s Church in Burnham Deepdale, and is host to over 100 stalls, shops and a café. This year is the 7th annual event, and also provides lots of activities and entertainment, as well as ample gifts, presents and local produce – there is something for everyone, and it is a great alternative to the high streets! This event is free entry and free parking.
The Theatre Royal in Norwich is home to the annual Christmas pantomime, and is always extremely popular. This year, the pantomime is the beloved Snow White, starring the likes of Jennifer Ellison, (from Brookside and Chicago), Richard Gauntlett, Ben Langley, Bruce Graham and Amie Howes. So if it’s comedy gold, songs, special effects, and unexpected surprises you are after this Christmas, you can get your tickets here.
Bure Valley Railway boasts Norfolk’s longest 15inch gauge line, which operates between Aylsham and Wroxham. During the festive period, Santa’s grotto sets up at Bure Valley, and each child receives a personalised present, return steam train ride, refreshments, railway workshops, and a children’s entertainer will be on board. Bure Valley Railway also runs Mince Pie Trains from 27th December to 3rd Jan – giving you that final chance to enjoy a nice mince pie at the end of the festive season!
Holkham Hall, based on the stunning Holkham Estate, opens its doors to the magic of Christmas this December. From opera, to theatre, Father Christmas, to cheeky elves, there is enough variety to keep even the Scrooges’ entertained this Christmas! Diva Opera – The Night Before Christmas, runs on Friday 4th and Saturday 5th December at 7pm, and it is £38 to enjoy the carols, songs, operatic arias, dancing and readings – topped off with a glass of champagne! Christmas Theatre – A Christmas Carol, is on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th December at 6.30pm, and An Audience With Father Christmas runs from Friday 18th – Monday 21st December at 9.30am, 10.45am, 12pm, 2pm and 4.30pm. The Thursford Christmas Spectacular is recognised as the largest Christmas show in the country – the 3 hour long performance brings a sparkling extravaganza of music, singing, dancing, comedy and variety. This includes a cast of 130 singers, musicians and dancers! This spectacle is extremely popular, with up to 50 coachloads a day arriving from all over the UK, and many of them are returning guests.
